Republicans are preparing to impose limits on the president’s ability to declare national emergencies following President Donald Trump’s recent declaration.
Last Friday, Trump vetoed an attempt from Congress to prevent him from using a national emergency to allocate money for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Despite this loss, Republicans in Congress are still committed to reducing the president’s power to declare a national emergency.
“It’s an institutional issue, it’s a congressional authorities issue. We have the power of the purse,” Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, told The Hill. “Under the National Emergencies Act, there was too much latitude that was given away … and we need to pull that back some and let it be used for legitimate national security purposes.”
Sen. Joe Kennedy, R-La., added that, “there is a lot of people, myself included, who believe that the National Emergencies Act … needs to be reformed.”
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said that there’s “unanimity” in the party about changing the law. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has asked Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., to write a bill that can win 60 votes, enough to prevent a filibuster.
“I would like to revisit the emergency powers that Congress has provided to the executive branch,” said Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., who sided with Trump. “I do think it’s going to be a healthy debate to have.”

The GOP is shortsighted on this issue. They do not still do not understand the Democrats. Democrats will do whatever they want when on power and decreasing the powers of the President will not make a difference to the Democrats. Just look what ObMa did! These GOP reps are fools to do this.

We also have learned (James Clapper on CNN) that Barrack Obama KNEW that the dossier was bought and paid for by the Hillary campaign yet told his intelligence heads to push the narrative. We also now know that Obama LIED we he claimed he was unaware of Hillary’s illegal server, there is concrete evidence that he communicated with Hillary on the illegal server using an assumed name. Seeing that we also know that Hillary has SAP information on her server that was hacked by many foreign governments it’s not a stretch to assume that both Obama and Hillary exchanged classified material on the unsecured server. The penalty for treason is still the death sentence !!!!

Republicans who think Democrats will obey limits on presidential emergencies simply misunderstand. The constitution and the concept of law mean nothing to Democrats. As pointed out in the earliest days of our country, our system only works with a special kind of people, ones willing to cooperate and follow rules and be bound by promises. I’m divided on this. On the one hand, I think that the situation at our southern border is a bona fide emergency that the president has had to make because of the recalcitrant Democrats who have made it their mission to do nothing but vandalize and wreck anything the president wants to do, even at a terrible cost to Americans….

These same Senators had no problem transferring treaty powers to President Obama- The Constitution requires 2/3 ratification.
