While market mood has shifted diametrically from yesterday, with stocks sharply higher on Tuesday following what has widely been interpreted as conciliatory comments from both president Trump and various members of China’s ruling elite, one would be hard pressed to find any de-escalation amid the Chinese press commentaries written in the aftermath of the latest escalation in trade war between the US and China.
In a series of editorials and op-ed articles published Monday and Tuesday, Chinese state media slammed what it labeled the Trump administration’s “greed and arrogance“, called for a “people’s war” targeting the US “with precision” as China begins a “fight for a new world.”
“The most important thing is that in the China-US trade war, the US side fights for greed and arrogance … and morale will break at any point. The Chinese side is fighting back to protect its legitimate interests,” the nationalist, state-owned Global Times tabloid wrote .
Urging indirect boycott of US goods and services, the editorial slammed Trump and suggested a nation-wide uprising against the US aggression: “The trade war in the US is the creation of one person and one administration, but it affects that country’s entire population. In China, the entire country and all its people are being threatened. For us, this is a real ‘people’s war.'” Whether this means a renewed collapse in Chinese iPhone sales remains to be seen - for confirmation, watch for a new guidance cut from Apple in the coming days.
The Global Times also accused the Trump administration of misleading Americans about the victims of US tariffs. It singled out Larry Kudlow’s interview on “Fox News Sunday” in which Trump’s top economic advisor said that US consumers would also suffer from the trade war, contradicting Trump’s claim that China would foot the bill.
More than just a retaliation to “unprovoked” US aggression, China now sees its response as a crusade against the western style of life. During a prime time broadcast on Monday, CNN reported that the state broadcaster CCTV also aired a statement saying that China would “fight for a new world.”
“As President Xi Jinping pointed out, the Chinese economy is a sea, not a small pond,” anchor Kang Hui said on his 7 p.m. news show. “A rainstorm can destroy a small pond, but it cannot harm the sea. After numerous storms, the sea is still there.” Hui concluded echoing a popular refrain, that “China…doesn’t want to fight, but it is not afraid to fight.”
The Global Times also mocked Trump’s suggestion that the tariff hike would “force companies to leave China”, stating that “the consumption capabilities and market consumption potential driven by demand are what foreign companies value most when they come to China.”
As a result, “the White House might as well try to call on American companies such as General Motors, Ford, Apple, McDonald’s and Coca-Cola to leave China. Will any of them follow?“
The editorial also hinted that more retaliations are coming, saying that “China has plenty of countermeasures” and telling its readers that “the US tariff moves are very much like spraying bullets. They will cause a lot of self-inflicted harm and are hard to sustain in the long term. China, on the other hand, is going to aim with precision, trying to avoid hurting itself.”
In an amusing twist, China then accused Trump of spinning and “seeking to beautify the trade war”, while Beijing has been “blunt about the difficulties and losses that the trade war will bring to the Chinese economy.”
The conclusion: “the Chinese side is obviously more realistic while the US is falsifying. This will, to a large extent, influence how the two countries digest the trade war impacts.”
Whatever side of the ideological divide one finds themselves, this is hardly the rhetoric that will allow China to reach a quick and painless compromise.

I hope the trade wars escalate, I am sick and tired of buying bad products from China and I am ready for U.S. factories to start back up and produce quality products. I also want the government to fine any corporation that takes their factory and production to China. And then refuse to let them restart again in the U.S. of A. These corporations are traitors to this country. But do not forget that the corrupt Unions have to be busted or they will cause the same problem all over again. I have had to deal with to many union based factories and all I seen was a lack of work ethics, lazy workers that used the union rules to not do the job at hand, and a total lack of any kind of cooperative work environment to get the job done, or even to do the job right. The Unions were a major cause of our factories leaving our country, and should not be the cause of the factories returning to our country. We should have enough legal over view for workers to be protected in this country with out the greedy unions being involved. It is a shame to see some one setting on a pice of loading equipment at 30.00/Hr. doing nothing when next to them are trucks needing to be loaded and the operator is not on shift. Then the trucks are stuck until the next shift to get loaded, and the other operator drew a full salary for doing nothing. No wonder that the factories had to go some where else. The unions pushed their cost so high that the manufacturers could not compete with the cheaper foreign made products that were inferior to our products.

I despise everything China. I try not to buy their stuff but it is virtually impossible to find anything else. Even in Europe when I was there for my bothers funeral I was shocked that everything there was mane id China also. We need to stand behind Trump and we should all try to boycott China made products. They are nothing but thieves biggest polluter and human rights abusers. They are killers of endangered species and have no regard for life or honesty. They are people with no integrity. The government has footed loans to developers to build ghost cities and the money will never , and can never, be paid back. China’s economy is totally unsustainable and will soon come crashing down. The average American home would cost about 100% of the family’s income for three to four years., i,e, a family earning $50,000 per year lives in a home that cost $150,000 to $200,000…..roughly. It would take 100% of the average Chinese family’s income for 40 to 60 years to buy a condo….Chinese people don’t live in houses. They live in high rise apartments that they refer to as there ‘house’. All land in China is owned by the state and those condo/apartments are build on land leased from the government for 70 years.
They steal all of the technology that they can from anywhere they can. Their buddies, the Russians, will no longer supply them with front line fighter aircraft as they tried to reverse engineer the Russian jets engines to avoid their trade agreements. the Chinese are without a doubt, the biggest liars on earth.
Their top line stealth fighter jet has been easily tracked by conventional radar by the Indians and is underpowered since the Russians will no longer supply then with engines. The military is under equipped and roughly 40% of their training consists of listening to state propaganda and watching indoctrination films. The average Chinese soldier receives less than $100 per month retirement after 30 years of service. How hard will they fight if confronted by a real war?
There are 57 ethnic minorities in China and the Chinese army is used extensively to forcefully hold its own population in check. Anyone remember Tiananmen Square?
Indian, to China’s SouthWest, is growing militarily and politically closer to the USA. India’s population will exceed that of China’s bt 2025 and India has the added benefit of good English language skills among the populace.
China is a mess and for all of the many woes of America, I like our odds better. Indian is the 4th strongest military in the world today by many estimations. Japan, a staunch ally of the USA to the East of China is re-arming due to the Chinese threat. Japan just inked a deal to buy 135 F-35 stealth fighters from the USA and is beefing up its navy with a new state-of-the-art aircraft carrier.
Everything considered, China is under internal and external threats that it may no be able to deal with. Ever since our wonderful Billy-Bob Clinton sponsored China’s membership in the WTO in hopes that China would play nice, the Chinese have screwed the USA and the rest of the world.

What I can’t help but notice being omitted is how much the US has always footed any bill for every other country that they’ve come to expect it so much so that it is the people of the US who have been robbed as taxpayers since our government isn’t a “for profit” business and are always expected to do and give more than our share for many, many years. All trade with China must be brought to a halt. U.S. companies that went there to exploit chip labor must face the economic consequences of doing so. Americans that have become dependent on cheap, and inferior Chines products must suffer the consequences of no longer having those products on our shelves. We ARE funding the Chinese military via our trade polices. This MUST stop, now.
The only folks who will suffer are those that go out and buy Chinese goods. Just buy American!
