Trump Trolls Senate Democrat Caught Meeting With Iranian Regime: That Sure Sounds Like A ‘Violation Of The Logan Act’

745

After hearing news first reported by The Federalist that Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy privately met with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Tuesday, President Donald Trump said the meeting sounds like a violation of the Logan Act.

“I saw that Sen. Murphy met with the Iranians. Is that a fact? I just saw that on the way over,” Trump said to a group of reporters at Joint Base Andrews-Naval Air Facility. “That sounds like to me a violation of the Logan Act.”

The Logan Act is a federal law passed in 1799 that prohibits American citizens from negotiating with foreign powers. Murphy previously called for the Department of Justice to investigate former national security adviser Michael Flynn for violating the Logan Act in 2017.

“Any effort to undermine our nation’s foreign policy, even during a transition period, may be illegal and must be taken seriously,” he said following anonymous leaks of a phone call Flynn had with a Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak.

Murphy also previously defended other unofficial, shadow diplomacy by Democrats such as former Secretary of State John Kerry, who met with high-level Iranian officials in 2018.

Murphy admitted Tuesday morning in a Medium post that he met with Zarif on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference last week. In the post, he described Iran as “our adversary, responsible for the killing of thousands of Americans.”

While participating in a panel discussion at the Munich conference, Murphy stressed that he was “not here to be a defender of the [Trump] administration’s policy in the Middle East.”

“He’s a critic,” interjected the panel moderator. “I would be characterized as a – as a critic,” the Democratic senator agreed.

  1. I believe this to be a crime under the Logan act and treasonous. Him and John Kerry need to go on trial and charged with their crimes.

  2. Why isn’t Murphy being charged?
This quote maybe explains it all.
“The whole world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of the Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected. G.K. Chesterton

  3. Is this the same Murphy that made demands of Ukrainian officials along with Durbin – Leahy and Menendez. T j e same ones talking with Maud*to and others. The Iranian embassy is a regular for these people and their staffers.

  4. Chris Murphy is another fine example of the demon creed “for thee, but not for me”.
All laws apply only to Republicans and those who disagree with the demon world.
Their citizenry who support and elect them are paid with welfare and perverse “freebies and freedoms”; so it just goes to their heads that ‘whatever they do’ is correct.
If we had an honest DOJ, pompous blowhards like him would be shackled.
Hope Bill Barr can clean his house this spring . . . it’s starting to stink.

  5. So once again what’s good for the goose isn’t necessarily good for the gander. I for one am tired of this one way street. If we have to fire the entire judiciary to get justice so be it. If they won’t do their job honestly, We Don’t Need Them! Vote Trump/Pence in 2020! Let’s get rid of the Rats!

  6. If Murphy was a Republican he would have been up for expulsion from the senate and facing criminal charges on violations of the Logan act. They wanted to impeach trump for less.

  7. Talking about an Benedict Arnold, John Kerry is an traitor to this country…Threw his medals away from Vietnam for political propaganda, take him and Jane Fonda kick them out the door of a BlackHawk…No Due Process…
