Mueller to Testify Before House Panels on July 17

Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who issued a report in April on Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, will testify in open session before the House of Representatives Judiciary and Intelligence Committees on July 17, the panels’ Democratic chairmen said on Tuesday.

Representative Jerrold Nadler, chairman of the judiciary panel, and Representative Adam Schiff, head of the intelligence panel, said in a joint statement that Mueller had agreed to testify after the two committees issued subpoenas on Tuesday.

A representative for Mueller did not immediately respond to a request for comment, though President Donald Trump’s lawyer former lead lawyer Jay Sekulow said he expects Mueller’s testimony to “be his report,” just as he promised it would be.

In remarks to ABC News, Sekulow said “Bob Mueller agreed to testify. He already said his testimony will be his report. We expect his testimony will be the report.”

He also told Fox News host Sean Hannity, however, “the first thing he needs to answer is his own conflicts of interest.”

“He was interviewed for the FBI director’s job, didn’t get it, and becomes a special counsel the next day,” Sekulow said, adding: “What happened to the evidence that they gathered for over a year on this counter-intelligence investigation” involving former FBI staffers and anti-trumpets Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.?

Mueller’s report, released publicly in April, found Russia meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and that Trump’s election campaign had multiple contacts with Russian officials.

But the report found insufficient evidence to establish a criminal conspiracy between the campaign and Moscow.

The report, which was partially redacted, also outlined instances in which Trump tried to interfere with Mueller’s investigation, but declined to make a judgment on whether that amounted to obstruction of justice.

Attorney General William Barr said there was insufficient evidence in Mueller’s report to conclude that Trump obstructed justice.

Trump says the report was a complete exoneration from what he called a witch hunt mounted by Democrats frustrated by his election victory.

But some Democrats have said the president should be removed from office through impeachment proceedings because of Mueller’s findings.

“Americans have demanded to hear directly from the Special Counsel so they can understand what he and his team examined, uncovered, and determined about Russia’s attack on our democracy, the Trump campaign’s acceptance and use of that help, and President Trump and his associates’ obstruction of the investigation into that attack,” Nadler and Schiff said in their statement.

Schiff told MSNBC in an interview: “We never felt it was sufficient to rely simply on a written report or a 10-minute statement without the ability to follow up with questions.”

Mueller, in his first public comments since starting the investigation in May 2017, said on May 29 that his probe was never going to end with criminal charges against Trump and indicated it was up to Congress to decide whether he should be impeached.

“If we had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so,” Mueller said. “We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime.”

  1. Nadler and Schiff have been anxiously awaiting a means by which they could obtain something – anything that looks incriminating to attach to the President since Muller was appointed special counsel; fully expecting Muller’s report to provide them exactly that. When it didn’t happen they could hardly contain their disappointment and began hounding Muller and Trump’s staff for testimony before Nadler’s committee that would be tantamount to a do-over of Muller’s investigation which has already cost millions of dollars.

Only this time their investigation, rife with bias, would be designed to exact anything from testimony that would directly incriminate the President in some way so there would be something resembling more of what Speaker Pelosi wants in the way of a straight line to impeachment. Their subpoena to Muller to testify before the committee is just their latest most transparent attempt to wring some sort of unguarded statement from Muller during his testimony that can be twisted and spun into something Nadler and Schiff can point to before being spoon fed to the Press that they insist warrants impeachment of the President.

I do NOT want legislators to spend another minute or any more of my money on this fool’s errand to impeach the President. What I and the majority of the rest of the citizens of this country want, is for them to spend time crafting legislation that will solve the problems that Citizens of this country know are actually important. These would be the same core problems that the Democratic Presidential Candidates are being asked about when they campaign at town hall meetings all over this country.

The citizens of this country do not ask these Presidential Candidates about the Muller Investigation. They DON’T CARE about the Muller Investigation. What they DO CARE about are exorbitant and unaffordable health care costs, even for people who have health insurance. They also want to know what they are going to do about crooked drug companies price fixing hugh increases in drug costs and that are being sued by 44 States Attorney’s General for doing exactly that, a living wage for people who despite having jobs are merely eaking out an existence, safe schools for their children and grandchildren and the repair and upgrade of our crumbling electrical grid and other elements of our infrastructure. I want them to FIX THAT !!!

  2. Every Demonrat and RINO holding public office since Trump has been elected has done NOTHING but lie and do everything within their power to defeat Trump. They were elected to serve the people, not their political party yet that is ALL they have done and still collect a paycheck. Some Senators are
happily collecting paychecks while they are going to be campaigning and collecting funds until the 2020 elections – on the taxpayers dime!!!
I hope these people, like Meuller, are made to personally suffer in some way for their lying and cheating!!!

  3. I herd them say last night that Weisman is the one that will testify… They said he is a huge liar and will lie to help the dems get Trump impeached…..the dems always tell you one thing and do another… So, is Mueller really going to be there?? Doesn’t sound like it…..
