Democrats Reject Trump’s “BRIDGE Act” Deal, Say “Not A Good Faith Effort”

Well that didn’t take long.

In fact, even before President Trump has issued his “major announcement,” Democratic leaders were pre-emptively rejecting his ideas.

Trump’s BRIDGE Act made two offers to Democrats in exchange for $5.7 billion in funds for a border wall: Extend DACA protections for Dreamers, who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children, and extend the legal status of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders.

Half an hour before the speech, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a statement:

“Democrats were hopeful that the President was finally willing to re-open government and proceed with a much-need discussion to protect the border.

Unfortunately, initial reports make clear that his proposal is a compilation of several previously rejected initiatives, each of which is unacceptable and in total, do not represent a good faith effort to restore certainty to people’s lives.”

Pelosi further slammed the deal for not including “the permanent solution for the Dreamers and TPS recipients that our country needs and supports.”

Additionally, Democratic Whip Dick Durbin also issued a statement:

“First, President Trump and Senate Majority Leader McConnell must open the government today. Second, I cannot support the proposed offer as reported and do not believe it can pass the Senate. Third, I am ready to sit down at any time after the government is opened and work to resolve all outstanding issues.”

A Democratic aide characterized the forthcoming offer from Trump as “non-serious product.”

“Dems were not consulted on this and have rejected similar overtures previously. It’s clearly a non serious product of negotiations amongst [White House] staff to try to clean up messes the president created in the first place. [The President] is holding more people hostage for his wall,” the aide said.

Day 30 of the shutdown seems inevitable…

  2. You must stick to your guns Mr. President. If you cave in to these brain dead demoncrats you will have lost the faith of the millions of American Patriots that voted you into office. I and many millions of other American Patriots support you in you endeavor to clean house and get our nation back on track where it should have been from previous administrations but alas that did not happen. If the house and the senate of both parties will not support the commander in chief then I believe it is time to go too old school business tactics on these obstructionists and let them know that while you are at the helm of our great nation, you will continue to work for the American Patriots and citizens of this great nation. So I say to you Mr. President. Stand tall, stand firm and above all else, stay resolute in your convictions to bring back the strength and respect that is the United States of America. I would simply like to make a suggestion which is if the President can cancel the DEM’s free flight plans as he did maybe he can also put all their pay checks on hold until they come to the table and resolve this (simple, no deal no pay until it’s resolved). Why should they be getting paid while so many who simply cannot afford to go without a pay check have to suffer.
    Maybe they should loose all their health benefits during this same time. If the president has the power to suspend all their benefits while the government is shut down just maybe the Dem’s will start to feel like what the 25 % of government workers are going through right. Government workers want to work and get paid. Dem’s do not want to do their job other than resist and reject anything that the president proposes.

    • Why suspend their pay, make it where they won’t get any back pay or any benefits during their ‘stubborn’ hatred. They don’t deserve anything during that time. Plus, take money they spent on their ‘vacation’ out of their pay as well. Two can play their stupid & ridiculous game also.

  10. This is another of the normal Republican programs with their trademark “Shot-In-The-Foot” clause. Republican are notaries for presenting legislature that appear to be a good measure, but like they say, “The Devil is in the details.” Republicans often present Bills like this that would appeal to those who only hear the first part only and never think about the consequences of what the Bill will have on people. When you are one of the wealthy power-players, little things like this Don’t really have any impact on there lives and pass it off like so much junk food.

  11. Please remember that President H. W. Bush negotiated with the democrats and reached an agreement. He gave in to them and gave them what they wanted and when he requested that his part of the agreement be delivered, they blatantly told him to just go pound salt. That is how the democrats can be trusted. Get your part first President Trump and then give them theirs. And it seems to me you have gone more that your fair share of the way.     We are not only experiencing a serious problem at our borders but in our government as well. The democratic obstructionists are putting ilegals ahead of the safety of our citizens. That is not the only problem either. Certain states have elected Muslims into our government. These new congresswomen have sullied our great institution with Islamic rhetoric and given verbal degrading speeches about America. I would say this is borderline treason. The House has passed a new amendment allowing head dresses in the chambers. That is such crap. As a citizen here, they are suppose to assimilate into our society but instead have been allowed to bring forth their beliefs into our Congress. This country was founded on the principals of freedom and equality. Their is no such thing in their beliefs. This wrong Mr. President and it needs attention now, not tomorrow. The special council has had 2 years to prove their case, which they have not. There is no collusion. Shut down this farce they call a investigation and use our tax payer money more wisely. The damages to this country by allowing this farce to continue is greater than the fallout of media and democrats screaming about how you upset the apple cart.

  19. Mr. President. Do not give into the Democrats on anything. They will never negotiate in good faith even if Govt. is open. I suggest opening Govt. for 30 days. Pay the folks that need paying. If after 30 days the Democrats have not come to their senses and funded the wall then shut the Govt. down again forever. Furlough all Govt. employees that are not mission critical without pay and send home all the Congressmen and Senators without pay until they negotiate an end to this fiasco. If after 30 days then fire all Congressmen and Senators just like Regan did with PATCO. Elect all new Congressmen and Senators who must take an oath to defend Americans first and not themselves. All monies in coffers outside the Treasury must be deposit into the Treasury immediately. Anyone caught holding Taxpayer money will be sent to prison for a minimum of 20 years. Give them an ultimatum. They are holding our Govt. hostage to their ridiculous demands. They offer no solutions to anything but reject everything the Republicans offer up. Enough already. It is time to fire all these criminals and life long politicians. Clean the Swamp out now. Fire them all.   24. Maybe he should start using executive orders to govern since Congress ( at least the Demanazis) refuse to come to work. They shut down the Government. That is their fault. The work still needs to be done. Maybe executive orders is the way to get it done.

  26. The flaw in Pelosi’s response is that she is “predicting” the lack of support for Trump’s offer. Most notably stating that it would not pass the Republican controlled Senate. She must have a pretty powerful crystal ball. She also states that the proposal would not likely pass the House which she controls which may indicate that she doesn’t control it as much as she thinks. In typical Congressional fashion, the routine partisan attack would be for the House to pass a bill with Trump’s concession in it and then pass it on to the Republican controlled Senate where the pressure would be on them to say yea or nay. A Nay vote of course would cause the shrieks of racism. But the only lack of “good faith” at this point is not even sitting down and at least going through the motion. But of course, the Democrats know that they will have political cover and protection from the press.
